Whatsapp Patient Engagement
1. Twilio WhatsApp Configuration
Before sending WhatsApp messages, you must first set up Twilio for WhatsApp communication.
Steps:
- Go to Settings
- Navigate to: Settings > Patient Engagement > Twilio Configuratio
- Enter Twilio WhatsApp Credentials:
- Account SID: Your Twilio Account SID (e.g.,
ACxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) - Auth Token: Your Twilio Auth Token
- WhatsApp From Number: Use the WhatsApp-enabled Twilio number, e.g.,
whatsapp:+1XXXXXXXX
- Account SID: Your Twilio Account SID (e.g.,
- Save Configuration

2. Enable WhatsApp for a Patient
To allow messaging via WhatsApp, the patient's profile must be set up correctly.
Steps:

Go to: Patients > Select/Create a Patient
Ensure the following:
- Mobile Number is entered correctly (only works for US number +1 extension)
- Enable WhatsApp: Tick the
WhatsAppcheckbox
- Save the patient record.
✅ This ensures the patient is eligible to receive WhatsApp messages via Twilio.

3. Send a WhatsApp Message from Patient Engagement
Once configuration and patient setup are complete, follow these steps to send a WhatsApp message.
Steps:

Navigate to: Patient Engagement > Engagement
Click Create and fill in the details:
- Engagement Type: Choose WhatsApp
- Click Send
The system will send the message using Twilio’s API. If there are any issues (like invalid
From/Topairs), it will be logged in the server logs with Twilio's error code (e.g., 21910).
